Trikala (KORINTHOS COUNTY)

Nested on the slopes of Zeria at an altitude of 1100 m, Trikala consists of three districts Kato Trikala, Mesea Trikala and Ano Trikala which constitute the most ancient settlement of Kyllini(Zeria). The environment, the cool springs, the fir trees, the perennial plane trees and the running waters combined with the traditional architecture of the stone and wooden buildings and the hospitality of the residents capture the visitor.

Shortly after Ano Trikala you can visit the Monastery of “Agios Vlassios” which was built in the 15th century, where according to the tradition the miraculous icon of St.Vlassios was found. The courtyard of the Monastery is full of flowers and trees, while the view of the Sytha river valley and the opposite villages, Manna, Stylia and Panariti, is truly magnificent.

It is the second highest mountain in the Peloponnese (2370 m) and one of the few Greek mountains with so many peaks above 2000 m.

On the plateau of Zeria (just above Ano Trikala) there is a small Ski center, where parents and children can enjoy the snow, take advantage of the ski learning school with two lifts available and enjoy the beautiful landscape in the spacious lounge that dominates the place.

Hermes Cave

It is located a little lower than the plateau of Flabouritsa, on the eastern side of Mount Zeria and at an altitude of about 1700 meters. One of the characteristics of the cave is its depth and the chambers with the colorful stalactites. Here, according to mythology, Hermes was born by Nymph Maia. The descent into the cave requires caution and special equipment is considered useful.

In the crystal and beautiful waters of this artificial lake which is surrounded by fir trees and beautiful wild flowers, the beautiful peaks of Aroania and Killini mountains are reflected, while the small chapel in the center of the lake is very picturesque.The lake is an ideal place for hiking and mountain biking, while many rare animal species are found there. The lake is protected by the Natura 2000 network.
On the slopes of the lake there is the historic monastery of St. George. The view from the balcony of the Monastery is breathtaking, offering wild and unspoiled beauty in the eyes of the visitor.

Vouraikos Gorge / “Odontotos” Rail (1889)

The Diakopto-Kalavryta cog railway (ODONTOTOS) and its unique route through the Vouraikos gorge are one of the most beautiful natural sights in Greece. It is considered as the most spectacular railway line in the Balkans.

The Vouraikos gorge is also friendly for hikers. The railway line is also a path and every year hikers from all over Greece and Europe hike on this unique route, enjoying the nature and the river.

Phonissa Gorge

Hidden and unexpectedly beautiful, the gorge unfolds in front of us on a journey of about 2 km. Its usual width is 2-3 m and its walls are of compact limestone.

It has 5 technical descents, an altitude difference of 250 meters and the crossing time for a 4-member group lasts about 3 hours. To get to Phonissa, we follow the road from Kato Loutro to Korfiotissa. Although equipment is required, visitors can also walk along it all the way. Although it is a small gorge, it is special  and unique.
